‘Moomins on the Riviera’ is a hand-drawn animated film featuring the Moomins, the celebrated cult comic strip from Tove Jansson.
The Moomins comic strip was first published in 1945, and their stories have been adapted for TV in the past, but this is the first feature film with the family. The style of the film stays true to Jansson’s original drawings, while offering up a story aimed at teaching us all how to appreciate the little things in life.
The coloring of the film is remarkable, inspired by vintage posters from the French Riviera in the 1950s, and includes a surprisingly yellow sea (along with the rest of the water in the film). It’s a neat take, and one that sets the look of the film apart.
