Happy to see the film finally getting made but I think they could do better on the casting. Scar is OK. I mean, sure she is very attractive and can act but I don't think she is right for Kusinagi (neither do I think she is right as Natasha, TBH).
I understand that there needs to be a big name associated with this to get the gears turning so I guess I am happier with her than the other big money options.Who will play Bato? Perlman seems the obvious choice but I kinda hope they break from that tradition. Daniel Craig could work.
Another thing about this: Ever watch Ghost in the Shell and Matrix back to back? Matrix ripped off so many scenes from GitS that it will shock you. Some scenes are nearly frame identical. Will GitS change so that it doesn't look like it is ripping off Matrix?

I had heard rumors for years of an effort by Hollywood to adapt Ghost in the Shell, one of the best animes ever! Created by that brilliant(and mysterious)rebel writer/artist Masamune Shirow! Unfortunately they chose a westener to play Major Matoko Kusanagi the central character, but i knew if it came to pass they would change it from a Japanese universe to something else, Still if Steven Spielberg is behind it, it might be worthwhile he'll stay true to the attention to details like the cybornetic universe the series takes place in, Motoko Kusangi defers in the Black Widow only in that shes a Cyborg detective! The Ultimate Bionic Woman!

Whoa... mind blown! I was mesmerized by Ghost In The Shell in college, and I'm mesmerized by Scarlett Johansson in, well, pretty much everything I see her in. She's a good actress who has proven versatile, and OMG SHE IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!! I hope to see this movie when it comes out, and I hope not to leave a puddle of drool for the other movie patrons to slip in...

I love me some Scarlett, but how in the world are they going to pull off her being "Motoko Kusanagi"? Why not just get a Japanese actress to play the roll?
Rila Fukushima?? She did a great job in The Wolverine.
Keiko Kitagawa? Tokyo Drift.
Eriko Hatsune ? Emperor with Tommy Lee Jones
Eriko Hatsune? The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise
Tao Okamoto? Also in The Wolverine though I think Rila is a stronger actress. Tao would be last on this list for me but all of these actresses would make great versions of Motoko.
