I read that the biggest bone of contention between the director and EL James is the fact that the director and screen writer knew that this film couldn't be a full on porno. The production company was trying as hard as possible to avoid an NC17 rating for this film. EL James doesn't know thos necessary subtleties with working with the MPAA. Her writing wasn't stellar to begin with, so it's more likely any movies she adapts from her novels will be better suited for Vivid Entertainment. I will still contend that EL James does nothing more than glorify and romanticize a man who emotionally, physically and sexually abuses women. No matter what - that can't be made appealing IMO.
