Jason Segel Wows Sundance as David Foster Wallace in 'The End of the Tour'

Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel in The End of the Tour.

Perhaps no movie at this year’s Sundance Film Festival seemed as ready-made for mockery as The End of the Tour, and understandably so. After all,how could anyone have the chutzpah to make a movie about David Foster Wallace, the irrefutably brilliant, tormented author who, until his 2008 suicide, literally and figuratively towered over every writer of his generation?

Sillly Old Me

David Foster Wallace....

Forget all the praise that goes on about him, and go read his stuff...see if you can follow or even finish what amounts to snippets of total brilliance, amazing writing and insight, sprinkled about loads and loads of useless pointless babble that should have been edited out of most of his writing, but was not.

Good luck.

I'm one of the ten people who actually read the book this was based on. It was highly readable, because Wallace seems to have spoken in complete sentences and was extremely funny/wise/arch. Film looks interesting, but for anyone wanting to get into Wallace, a good start is his non-fiction, Consider the Lobster, or Interviews with Hideous Men, which is dark and brilliant, and way more approachable than his door stopper novels.
